Passing on the baton of memory

Even without public recognition as World or Japanese heritage, every town has its own industrial heritage. Industry, of all kinds, is an essential part of human life. When we look to not only essential industries like agriculture, fishing, and mining, but also manufacturing, sales, and even the huge variety of services, we can awaken memories sleeping in this land that have left tangible traces all over Hokkaido.
It is essential that people be given time to learn and deepen their own recollections of the industries that have enriched and supported their communities. Passing that baton of memory to our children, who may someday leave these towns, can create a valuable asset ten years down the road.
