Located adjacent to Sapporo Station, Mitsui Garden Hotel Sapporo—a popular base from which to explore Hokkaido and Sapporo—reopened on February 1, 2026, following refurbishment.
The most notable feature of this refurbishment is the increase in the number of twin and triple rooms, as well as the introduction of new quad rooms, to meet the needs of groups and families.
By reconstructing the space previously occupied by two single rooms into one larger room, the number of rooms that can accommodate three to four guests has significantly increased from 20 to 140, enabling the hotel to cater to a wider range of needs. The total number of guestrooms has been reduced from 247 pre-refurbishment to 177 across seven room types. In addition, the interiors, fixtures and fittings, and bathroom facilities in all rooms have been completely renewed.
When asked about the significant changes to the room configurations, Mitsui Garden Hotel Sapporo Front Desk Staff member Hasegawa Saki explains, “It came about due to an increase in the number of guests who are travelling as a family or group. We are also seeing more cases in which inbound guests travel with two or three generations of family.”

To coincide with the refurbishment, a “WELLNESS HARMONY” design concept was established, and designs and artwork that evoke the spirit of Hokkaido and Sapporo were introduced throughout the hotel, creating spaces that reflect the local character.
Furthermore, by utilizing timber sourced by thinning forests owned by the Mitsui Fudosan Group, as well as recycled carpets, the aim is to create a hotel that coexists with the environment.

The hotel has also been made more comfortable as a result of improvements such as the refurbishment of the utility lounge and the large communal bathhouse, which have enhanced convenience and comfort for long-stay guests. The utility lounge is equipped with vending machines for drinks and snacks, a coffee machine, and a space where guests can relax on sofas. A microwave oven, coin-operated laundry facilities and an iron also ensure the space has all the utilities required to make your stay even more comfortable.
According to Ms. Hasegawa, “By enlarging the rooms to accommodate three or more, we’ve seen an increase in the number of medium to long-stay guests. Many take day trips to various locations within Hokkaido and return in the evening, or check out and then check back in two or three days later. Such guests appreciate the convenience of the 24-hour utility lounge.”

The Utility Lounge, which is open to all guests, is a comfortable space equipped with sofas, vending machines, a coffee machine and more.

In addition, a restaurant called “Hakko &,” which focuses on Hokkaido ingredients and “fermentation,” has opened. It offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, serving dishes that combine seasonal Hokkaido ingredients with the culture of fermentation.

“Fermentation is one of Japan’s time-honored culinary traditions. We want our guests to experience food that’s healthy. Many overseas guests prefer a light breakfast, so the salad area—which we expanded during the refurbishment—is very popular.”
