TALK-1: Activating the Sosei-Higashi - Tongu stage where people live and work
In the harsh snowy winter, it is difficult to visit the Hokkaido Jingu Shrine. So the Hokkaido Jingu Tongu Shrine was established in 1878 as a place to worship and offer prayers. In 1947, with a request to become a guardian deity of the district, Tongu was enshrined and became a subordinate Sapporo Jinja (Shrine). Since about two years ago a group of people gathered by Tongu began activities to develop the Sousei Higashi area and to revitalize the town in consideration of the region.

The Hokkaido Jingu "Tongu" (banch shrine). Standing in front of the beautiful shrine structure with its dignified atmosphere, it’s easy to forget you are in the center of a large city. Sometimes called "Tongu-san," this place has been the venue of the Sapporo Shitamachi Marché from the past two years. We asked about the new movement taking place at the downtown shrine.

Sapporo Sake Born on the Banks of a River
Nipponseishu Co., Ltd., which is right in front of the Toyohira River, is the oldest existing sake brewery in Hokkaido. It uses the underground water of the Toyohira River in its sake brewing. It continues to make a clear, smooth sake suitable to the northern territories by scooping up pure water with a moderate mineral content from a well dug 150 meters under the brewery.
